Panda Pediatrics is committed to providing your child with screening tests and disease prevention (including vaccinations) as recommended by the Bright Futures initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
The AAP recommends multiple assessments of a child’s cardiovascular health throughout their life.
At birth, children are tested for structural heart problems using two pulse oximeters, the results of this test are confirmed at the Newborn Visit.
Starting at 3 years of age, we check your child’s blood pressure yearly (relative to your child’s sex and height) to screen for early onset high blood pressure.
Screening for high cholesterol and other lipid problems is recommended during adolescence to limit coronary artery disease in older age. We do non-fasting lipid testing two times between 11 and 17 years of age. If family history of very high cholesterol is present, checking lipids multiple times may be necessary.
