18 YEAR VISIT
The 18 Year Visit involves a comprehensive exam, a review of your child’s development and growth, and a review of your child’s diet, voiding habits, and sleeping routines. Depression screening will continue and you may obtain a sports physical at this visit. If your child is now a young woman, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) also recommends yearly urine testing for females to screen for two asymptomatic illnesses that can place their future fertility at risk. At this age it is also recommended to obtain blood testing for an asymptomatic, deadly illness at this age called HIV.
If your child hasn’t yet gotten the last well check booster vaccine, this should be completed today.
If you haven’t had your child fill out the adult release of information, it’s now necessary for legality as they are considered adult by the state of Kansas.
Start planning ahead with your child. We can care for children at this clinic until 21 years of age, but we recommend starting now, looking for that future provider they can really trust and get along with, especially if they are traveling greater than 30 minutes from home for a job or college.
