The 17 Year Visit involves a comprehensive exam, a review of your child’s development and growth, and a review of your child’s diet, voiding habits, and sleeping routines. Depression screening will continue and you may obtain a sports physical at this visit. There will be a 5 minute private talk with your provider offered to your child to maintain adequate care as they develop their private lives. Also the second of two American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended lipid labs will be ordered today for screening for early heart disease. If your child is now a young woman, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) also recommends yearly urine testing for females to screen for two asymptomatic illnesses that can place their future fertility at risk.

The optimal time to complete your child’s last booster vaccination is between 16 and 18 years of age and completes the series that your child began at 11 years of age.

It’s crazy, but your child has almost made it to legal adulthood. Plan ahead and have him or her fill out the adult release of information form, so we can release information to you, in case of an emergency, after your child turns 18 years of age.
